Just
A Sister Away Support/Prayer Ministry

|
| Sylvia Stainback and Cheryl E. Brabham |
Mission Statement:
Just A Sister is a women’s spiritual support group anchored in the belief that God has not forgotten nor
forsaken the plight of women. This group shall be committed to the enrichment
of women and their spiritual, emotional, psychosocial and physical well-being. We
must not let anyone define who we are except Christ.
Purpose:
The primary function of the group is to establish and create a safe, comfortable
atmosphere where women will be able to dialogue through their pain. Our profound
belief is that there is power, healing and catharsis in the telling and the sharing of our stories of how Christ gives us
victory, even in the midst of any storm.
JASA will meet once a month in an environment where women feel safe to share, listen, and pray with each other and
allow the Holy Spirit leads us in our healing and wholeness.
On May 19th, the Just A Sister Away Ministry (a support group for women) hosted a "FAITH
IN ACTION" workshop and luncheon.
This occasion was designed to
feed: mind, body, and spirit; through sharing, dining, and prayer. A multi generational
group of fifty women entered into a Holy Spirit filled atmosphere of sisterly love.
Special acknowledgements were given to women in adverse circumstances who have made great accomplishments in their
lives by trusting in our, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Allison Palmer our
guest speaker/facilitator helped to create a relaxed atmosphere. She presented an inspirational and informative fun workshop
called “Building Our Faith Muscles”. Her introduction of “Laughter
Yoga” was fun, and showed us how to make ourselves healthier through laughter, such as:
Lowering blood pressure, increasing oxygen intake, and releasing stress. It was a good “ice breaker”. The
second part of the workshop: “ Words of Power to Encourage”; conducted
within a limited time frame with positive acclamations and affirmations from the first initial of our name first name, e.g.
Sylvia (S) Spiritual, sincere, sanctified, etc. In the third section of the workshop: “7 Minutes of Faithfulness”,
we learned to meditate and to use positive acclamations when we encounter different trials and tribulations in our lives. The workshop was very empowering and it provided us with some tools for survival.

The
women were blindfolded during Allison’s testimony. Being blind folded, we were able to go into the dark place with Allison
and within our own dark areas of life. Her testimony was painful to listen to,
but joyful to see Allison, a miracle of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ standing healed and victorious before our very eyes. Her testimony encouraged and empowered the women.
Some of the women shared their testimonies; others danced their deliverance and healing. Gina Fletcher, a guest of Allison shared her testimony through song, which took the women to another level
of praise/worship. Sisters were praying for each other, crying, and rejoicing,
it was a powerful, glorious, healing, liberating experience. The women who attended this event are still commenting: “When
can we do this again?”, “my faith has increased”, “I know I am healed”, “I have never
experience anything thing like this”. “I know that through Christ
all things are possible”. “I love my sisters”.
