Devotional 2022 ● Day Seventeen

Daily Break-Fast Invitation

This day, an open invitation has been extended to everyone through the words of Isaiah 55:1-3a. Yes, it is an invitation to the thirsty, to the hungry, and to those persons not easily satisfied with junk food, fast food, and microwave meals. You see, what is on this menu is the Lord’s ancient soul food. And, while Isaiah doesn’t offer specifics about each dish, like most waiters would do, he does imply that our satisfaction is guaranteed saying, “…eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare” so, “…that your soul may live.” Perhaps Isaiah’s reason for not getting into specifics is that he recognizes the vastness of needs among God’s people, and what is more, that God is able to meet every one of those needs. For the Lord’s menu consists of the lessons, wisdom, psalms, and prayers, in the word of God to feed our hearts, minds, and spirits. It is the bread of life that will not merely tantalize our taste buds physically and emotionally, but nourish, strengthen, and equip us for our entire life’s journey.

Daily Let Us remember to break-fast so that our souls are properly fed. Let Us be nourished by the sincere milk of God’s word. Let Us worship allowing our praise to flow to God like a wellspring of water. And Let Us partake of the bread of life… freely share the bread of life which is Christ with all who hunger as we do, that we all might be filled.

Let Us Pray

Lord God, we thank you, for this invitation to breakfast… this invitation to begin each day by opening your word and feasting on it… to be nourished and refreshed by it. We thank you for being the God of abundant provision. We thank you for assuring us that those who remain in you will never lack any good thing.
