Lenten Devotional 2021 - Day Twelve

A Lesson in Contrasts

Encouraged and yet resting in the assurances and peace of the “Is-ness” of God expressed in Psalm 27:1, I hear vv. 2-3 differently from my readings in the past. These two verses offer us a lesson in contrasts. On the one hand, there is the show of force often displayed by wicked, evil foes, and enemies. On the other, there is the declaration of peace and assurance, born from confidence in God that keeps the head and heart of the psalmist. Interestingly enough, it is the outer display of force and fight by wicked opposition that is destined to fall amounting to nothing, while the inner grounding and strength sustains the psalmist enabling him to stand.

Let Us not be moved by the threat or appearance of trouble from those that would come against us because of who we are called to be. Let Us heed the call of God, hold to the word of God, be strengthened in our inner-being, and stand.
